Concussion and Hyperbaric oxygen

We’ve all heard of a concussion, especially if you watch any kind of sports, but what is a concussion?

A concussion is a mild brain injury usually from some kind of trauma like a car accident, a sports injury or a fall. Common symptoms of a concussion are headache, dizziness, problems with memory, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and more. Most concussions will heal on their own within a few days to weeks. However, it is becoming more common to have a post-concussive syndrome that can last for months.

Enter hyperbaric oxygen…your brain LOVES oxygen. If your brain has received an injury, the best way to heal it is with oxygen. We have seen dramatic results over the years with patients recovering quickly from a concussion. For some patients, it’s almost like we’ve turned the lights back on for them.

Hyperbaric oxygen works partly as an anti-inflammatory, but it also works by waking up the stunned part of the brain. After a concussion, the brain can get a little sluggish which is what causes the memory and focus issues. Oxygen helps to wake up the brain so it can function normally again.
